Inspirational FictionThis is a featured page

Inspirational fiction, while not technically a genre, is a type of literature that many people will ask for, and that falls under many different genres. Inspirational fiction is characterized by the author's incorporation of religion or personal philosophy into a work. This incorporation can work two ways: a) to inspire and uplift readers who already share the author's personal philosophy, and/or b) to persuade readers with different beliefs to incorporate the author's philosophy into their own lives.

Many people, when they hear the term "inspirational fiction," assume "Christian fiction" or "gentle reads." However, inspirational fiction includes many different beliefs, and is not always gentle. On the other hand, gentle reads are not always inspirational. For example, LaHaye and Jenkins' popular Left Behind series is thrilling and often violent, probably not a good choice for a reader seeking a gentle read. On the other hand, Agatha Christie's cozy mysteries, while gentle, are not considered inspirational.
